InSync Robotics

  InSync’s high quality IP digital TraVis cameras work in concert with the InSync processor to 1) process images of real time vehicle platoons passing through or vehicle queues stopped at intersections and 2) utilize its powerful and proven Artificial Intelligence (AI) logic to input optimized “calls” for green lights to signal controllers that run in free mode.  It functions as a traffic robot that possesses both an “eye” and a “brain”.

InSync Digital Architecture

• Enables existing solid state controllers which, despite their newer digital components, operate by traditional “analog” principles for controlling traffic signals.  InSync plugs into and causes any solid state controller to change a signal “digitally” by liberating it from the confining and sluggish nature of traditional set cycles, set splits and offsets to a fixed point in a cycle.
  
  InSync is a finite state changing machine.  There are a finite number of “states” (compatible/concurrent phase pairs) in which a traffic signal can possibly operate.  Likewise, there are a finite number of “sequences” of those states that are possible and/or permissible at an intersection.   InSync thinks “digitally” regarding the best choice of these possible traffic signal sequences and states in immediate reaction to real-time vehicle demand and calls on the controller to change the signal accordingly.  InSync combines an optimization methodology of global arterial signal coordination with a powerful and agile local intersection algorithm to both maximize/guarantee arterial progression and reduce side street/left turn delay.

InSync Components

• Provide a simple overlay for existing traffic cabinet hardware, an Ethernet and web-centric system that allows remote viewing, tweaking and signal/arterial management and traffic data retrieval that simplifies and multiplies the work of traffic engineers and technicians.
  
  InSync integrates components that fit together and seamlessly interface with traffic controllers and cabinets.  The three basics components are: (1) an IP Axis 221 digital camera placed in a weatherproof enclosure that connects via Ethernet cable to the (2) InSync processor and (3) detector cards.  The processor is placed inside the traffic cabinet and communicates to the signal controller via Rhythm-provided detector cards that slide into standard detector card racks.  Once Ethernet communication (wired or wireless) is deployed between intersections, along with an internet network hub, InSync can be configured, monitored and managed across the web through user-friendly web interface pages and a standard browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox.  InSync does not require any proprietary software.  Additionally, vehicle counts, stop delay and Level of Service data for specific phases, times of day or days of the week or month can be conveniently downloaded into graph or spreadsheet form for analyzing traffic flow.
